2018 - FIRST power up

In “FIRST Power Up”, robots are built to pick up “power cubes” and place them on three large balancing scales in order to tip the scale to their alliance’s side and gain ownership. Alliances can also trade “power cubes” for power ups, giving the alliance different advantages in the game. At the end of the match, robots can climb the scale in order to get additional points.

2017 - FIRST steamworks

In “FIRST Steamworks” robots are built to shoot wiffle balls representing fuel into a “boiler” which transferred “steam” into their alliance’s airship. Another way to gain points is to load plastic gears from the field on the airship. At the end of the match robots can climb and hang on ropes attached to the airship for additional points.

2016 - FIRST stronghold

In “FIRST Stronghold”, robots attacked opponent alliance’s castles by ‘breaching’ various ‘defenses’ (random obstacles) and shooting foam balls into their towers to weaken them so they could be captured. At the end of the match, robots had to surround the tower to gain more points.

2015 - recycle rush

In “Recycle Rush” robots had to pick up and stack totes on scoring platforms, putting pool noodles ("litter") inside recycling containers, and putting the containers on top of scoring stacks of totes. both alliances can pool their totes and stack them on a step dividing the field to each gain twenty points. Along with these robot actions, human players can attempt to throw the pool noodles across the field to gain four points for each noodle left in the opposing alliance's work zone.

2014 - aerial assisst

In “Aerial Assist”, alliances win via getting exercise balls into the scoring areas located on the far end of the field.

The robots can do either the basic goal score (take the ball to the other end of the field), or assist them in doing so. The recipient of the latter will earn bonus points (2 assists=10 points, 3 assists=30 points).

Throwing the ball over the truss (the midpoint overhang) when transferring, a la volleyball, will add 10 additional points. Having an alliance partner catch it will earn 10 more points. A robot in the goalie zones can block shots via extending upwards.

2013 - ultimate ascent

In “Ultimate Ascent”, robots scored goals by shooting Frisbees into one of three goals over each set of driver’s stations. Additionally, robots were also given points for hanging from, or climbing, a pyramid in the center of each alliance’s zone.

2012 - rebound rumble

In “Rebound Rumble,” robots from each alliance could score points by shooting foam basketballs into hoops at a variety of heights. At the end of the match, robots had to balance with alliance partners on a bridge. Robots could also balance with robots on the opposing alliance for special “coopertition” points during qualification matches.
